DailyRi 024: Surviving (& Thriving) Through Social Anxiety

many of us feel gratitude, but to me, expressing gratitude is synonymous with service. personally, it is a humble reminder every single day that nobody owes me anything, & that everything i “have” is merely borrowed. i am borrowing this body, so i’d better take care of it by minding my health. this mind is not mine, so i’d better take care of it by continuing to stimulate it intellectually & cleanse it from all toxins. this heart is not mine, so i’d better take care of it by protecting it from anything or anyone that cannot handle it with care. & lastly, no space i occupy belongs to me. no person i interact with is “mine.” one day, I’ll have to return all of these blessings I’ve been showered with, so i’d better express my gratitude by leaving all places & things better than i found them.

DailyRi 022: The Business Case Against Being “Everybody’s Type”

in my marketing class last quarter, we talked about how brands position themselves & segment certain markets. we discussed the “niche” market & how, sometimes, the fact that certain demographics NOT being interested in a product speaks to a strong brand identity. for example, the fact that a white woman would never look twice at a hair care product for women with thick, curly hair texture (clearly targeted towards minority women) reinforces this brand’s strong identity.

i’m a super lucky girl. yes, i said lucky. i know i busted my a$$, but i also know that the stars had to align. sure, i deserve credit for where i am, but god deserves more credit. & i know i deserve to be here, but only if i make it count. which is why i like reminding myself that i’m super fortunate. & my way of expressing gratitude for all i’ve been given is by giving back tenfold. after all, that’s why i’m pursuing this degree.

DailyRi 018: Learning To Leverage My Strengths (& Care Less About My Weaknesses)

in the past, i had a fomo-esque attitude about ignoring my weaknesses and focusing on my strengths - as if i would lose out on something if i didn't hone my areas of growth, even though i have no interest in those areas at all. i now realize that the only thing i'm losing out on is the time i could have spent honing and leveraging the strengths that actually energize me. i was conforming to the system by ever feeling like i should pour valuable time and energy into things i wasn't good at and had no interest in.
