#TBT: 16 Things I've Learned Since Building My Brand
I CANNOT BELIEVE IT HAS ONLY BEEN A MONTH SINCE I LAUNCHED THE #ROADTO_ BRAND! HAPPY ONE MONTH ANNIVERSARi to my brand!
I AM EXCITED TO SHARE WITH YOU ALL THE 16 THINGS I'VE LEARNED SINCE OCTOBER 16 - MY BIRTHDAY, AND NOT COINCIDENTALLY, THE DAY I LAUNCHED MY SITE.
but first, I want to lead with the overarching lesson I've learned on this journey:
⚡️ i take the promises that i make to myself very seriously. ⚡️
10 #roadtorima blog posts, 4 #roadto_ trailblazers and 5 Risource pages later, I am so proud to say that my word is pretty much golden, that I've developed such a deep respect for myself and for my work.
THE ROAD AHEAD OF ME IS TRULY LIMITLESS
but before I take-off, I truly believe that to most effectively move forward on this #roadtorima, I need to continuously look in my rearview mirror.
for this reason, all of my Thursday posts from here on out will be throwback thursday posts (#TBT) to honor the role of my past in my present.
here are my 16 riflections since October 16th:
MY INTUITION IS MAGICAL
some things cannot be explained in a tutorial. sometimes our feelings contradict what may seem logical, and sometimes, that is okay. some things just feel right, and the true magic happens, my love, when you finally learn to trust those feelings.
I WAS RIGHT TO TAKE MY TIME
so many sources suggested that I should take a "just do it" approach instead of trying to strategically plan before I executed. while i needed to gain some level of urgency, I am so happy that I took my time with this process, making it as intentional and authentic as possible.
START WITH "WHY?"
this riflection directly relates to #2. I wanted my vision and overall purpose for this brand to be crystal clear before I made anything public. I am so humbled to say that, through the feedback I've been getting and conversations that this site has generated, my "why" is exactly as clear as I intended for it to be. know your "why" first.
I CAN ONLY BE Ri (me)
in a world that tries to impose on social media "personalities" a cookie cutter persona, I decided that if I was going to do this, that I could only be Ri. it just wouldn't feel right otherwise. people have been so inspired by my authenticity, and it has made me feel encouraged to move forward with my plans, personally, professionally, and everything in between.
Consistency is Key
before launching my site, I watched a lot of vlogs and read a lot about how to start a brand, website, blog, etc. all of these sources talked about the value of consistency and having a reliable posting schedule. I'm so happy that I took heed to this advice; I've since developed a "no excuses" mentality to so many other things i'm pursuing.
Baby Steps Matter, sometimes the most
as an "all or nothing" kind of gal, I've had to remind myself often that baby steps matter - oftentimes even more than the bigger moves. I'm an aspiring entrepreneur who plans to spend the rest of my life designing and implementing impactful and inspirational experiences for others. I am so glad I learned this lesson early on and can apply it to all of my future endeavors.
I only bit off what I could chew
key word is "I" here. I really had to know and understand myself in order to gauge what I could and couldn't handle, regardless what the "best practices" were telling me. I am still taking my time with the other components of my brand (my shop and vlog) because I want to make sure I'm allocating my efforts as intentionally and effectively as possible.
this is a mash-up of #2, #6 and #7. this process has helped me truly live by the adage: "what's for me will always be for me." I am in no rush for anything. I am enjoying this process so much, and I'm loving that I have the time and space to enjoy the scenery along the way. I know that god has already paved my path, and I'm excited to watch the road unfold ahead of me.
Feedback helps me grow the most
I am a natural-born sponge. I have always soaked up feedback, advice, and even the harshest criticism so that I could learn and grow. the feedback that I've been getting from my followers is helping me adjust course when necessary, or keep trekking when I feel I'm already on to something. me and my brand are growing every day!
I LOVE MY NEW ROSE COLORED GLASSES
being a social media personality is a whole new identity. you don't become a different person, but you do develop a refined lens to view even the most menial experiences, a pair of rose-colored glasses. all of my experiences now have the potential to be post-worthy, and this new perspective is making me appreciate the little things in life, even if I never write about them.
our stories overlap in so many ways
I have truly been humbled by the responses I've been getting to my posts and my brand's vision. some posts (like my "The truth about why I quit my job" or "how I got rid of half of my closet") spoke to people in ways I could have never predicted. telling my story has given others courage and affirmation to share their (often very similar) stories.
my world is filled with abundance
I believe that everyone should be invested in seeing their peers win. I don't compete with anyone, firstly because of #8, and more importantly, because I would want you to win whether I do or not. like I've mentioned, what's for me will always be for me. abundance has truly helped me listen to my heart and move forwARD WITH THIS movement FOR all of THE RIGHT REAsons.
i should never underestimate my influence
so much of my initial hesitation (before I decided on #4) was due to insecurity/feeling like I wasn't cut out for building a brand. I felt like people may not be interested in what I had to say, or that I wouldn't find my voice. I'm so proud to say that, after boldly silencing my fears & taking this huge leap of faith, I will never underestimate my influence again.
I take pride in what I do
"take pride in what you do" were my father's words when I was a teen, rushing through folding my laundry. the advice stuck with me ever since. I take pride in all that I do - from laundry to lesson-plans - and, because of that, I do them well. I know that this level of accountability and respect for my overall purpose is what's guiding me gracefully through my journey today.
i'm getting rid of my comfort zone
what's a comfort "zone?" actions are either me or they're not - period. I've had to step outside of this so-called comfort zone so many times, meeting other bloggers virtually, recording myself in public, posing for pictures as people walk by and stare. I've decided that I'm getting rid of my comfort zone for good and doing anything that I've decided is a Ri thing to do. stares are welcome.
i embrace ambiguity with open arms
the whole #roadto_ brand is predicated on this idea of a long-term vision or destination, but what I learned shortly after my original #roadtooctober is that the unexpected events that happened along the way were what I enjoyed the most. since launching my brand, I have become so comfortable with ambiguity; while I love goal-setting, its that blank space in #roadto_ that excites me most.
as you can see, i have already learned a tremendous amount in this short time. i can guarantee the learning (and sharing) won't stop! Keep Up With Me.
if you are looking to blog, vlog or start your own brand, i would love to connect with you. If you already have a site and/or brand of your own, i have so much more to learn on this journey and i'm always looking to learn from others. Just Hit that button below!
